Orientation Portal
Design Initiation Lab
A 4-day immersive orientation experience for future designers.
Learn to see what others miss, question what others accept, imagine what others cannot, and communicate ideas visually.
What is this orientation?
A studio-like beginning, built for laptops and real rooms.
Students move between online prompts and hands-on studio activities. The portal stores drafts, uploads, reflections, faculty comments, badges, and a curated peer gallery so orientation becomes a record of creative growth, not a one-time briefing.
Four-day journey
From seeing to presenting.
Four days. Three hours each day. A complete introduction to design thinking through evidence, making, and visual communication.
Day 1
The Observer
Train your eye to notice material, behavior, space, and detail.
Day 2
The Investigator
Question assumptions and turn observations into real design problems.
Day 3
The Ideator
Generate many possibilities through sketches, associations, and prototypes.
Day 4
The Design Storyteller
Shape a concept and present it with clarity, evidence, and visual confidence.
What students create
Identity cards, observation studies, interviews, problem statements, sketches, prototypes, storyboards, pitch boards, and reflections.
What to bring
Laptop, phone camera, notebook, pen, pencils, simple making materials, curiosity, and willingness to look slowly.
